Spring Mission Festival 2019
A mission festival, bucking the trend.
In recent years, more and more books on "saying no" have come onto the market. One has to learn to protect oneself, to separate oneself, to create free space through the magic word "no". So our topic "Say yes!" is bucking the trend. It has to do this, because it’s all about Jesus and his call.
10.00 a.m.: Festive service
"In many parts of this world, our co-workers proclaim God's Word in cultures lacking a written language. Even if there is already an alphabet for their language and schools, books do not play a role in the lives of these people. People who do not read also learn differently. They would not understand a "sermon" as we are used to it. The theatre theologian and actress Birte Papenhausen (WEC) will let us experience what preaching can look like in a culture without writing.
In all four Gospels we meet Mary, the Mother of Jesus, again and again. When we put these stories of the four evangelists together, something like "the Gospel of Mary" emerges. The story of how Mary experienced the growth, life, suffering and resurrection of her Son. What she has learned is a powerful message for us who read books, but also for those of our modern society who are " weak in reading and writing ".
During the morning, the missionaries in preparation will have their say: how they made it to a "yes" to the call to mission.
During lunch break
As usual, simple but good food and three short propositions:
Volunteering is the thing
We present our new program of how volunteers can work with us in God's mission.
Meet & Greet
Meet former volunteers in the hobby room to reconnect, share and network. Lunch is included!
Family in cultural stress
Family identities and role expectations differ from culture to culture. How do we deal with them biblically?
Prayer for per-secuted Christians
Many Christians are not able to celebrate and live as freely and joyfully as we are. We do not forget them. Pray with us!
2.00 p.m.: Panel
In the afternoon we’ll ask missionaries with experience how they held on to the "yes" to their call, and even more, how this "yes" to God's call has spread. We look forward to hearing touching stories from people from many cultures who say YES - OUI - NA'AM - NDIYO - SI ... to Jesus and to the new life he gives. In addition a pithy passage from the Bible with Dr. Markus Völker, Peru. The end is already planned for 3.30 p.m. so that there will be enough time to talk to old and new friends.
It’ll be our pleasure to see you!
